ere=before
thither=there
hither=here
whilst=while
intreaty=entreaty懇求
prevail on (v) 說服/勸說
allude (v) 暗示
mortify (v)
impertinence (n)
impertinent (a)
petulant=querulous=peevish (a) 易怒的 (罵人的時候交替出現)
frivolous (a) 輕率的
insinuate (v) 暗指
invective (n) 謾罵
impervious=impermeable (a) 堅定的
licentious (a) 放蕩的
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.
(Mrs Bennet) You do not know what I suffer.
(Charlotte Lucas) I am not romantic you know. I never was. I ask only a comfortable home.
(Charlotte Lucas)
(Lady Catherine) No governess! How was that possible? Five daughters brought up at home without a governess!
(Lady Catherine)
(Lady Catherine) There are few people in England, I suppose, who have more true enjoyment of music than myself, or better natural taste.
(Lady Catherine)
(Elisabeth Bennet)I had not known you a month before I felt that you were the last man in the world whom I could ever be prevailed on to marry.
(Elisabeth Bennet)
(Mr Bennet) Well, well, do not make yourself unhappy. If you are a good girl for the next ten years, I will take you to a review at the end of them.
(Mrs Gardiner)I fancy, Lizzy, that obstinacy is the real defect of his character after all.
(Mrs Gardiner) Lizzy,
(Elisabeth Bennet) You can now have nothing farther to say. You have insulted me, in every possible method.
(Elisabeth Bennet)
(Mr Darcy) My affections and wishes are unchanged, but one word from you will silence me in this subject forever.
(Mr Bennet) If any young men come for Mary or Kitty, send them in, for I am quite at leisure.
